The LORD said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do…? (Genesis 18:17)
Henry Blackaby in his book Experiencing God, says, “You never find God asking persons to dream up what they want to do for Him…Without a doubt, the most important factor in each (Biblical) situation was not what the individual wanted to do for God. The most important factor was what God was about to do.”
He adds, “God reveals His purposes (His tasks) so you will know what He plans to do… When God came to Noah He did not ask, ‘What do you want to do for me?’ He came to reveal what He was about to do. It was far more important to know what God was about to do. It really did not matter what Noah had planned to do for God. God was about to destroy the world! He wanted to work through Noah to accomplish His purposes of saving a remnant of people and animals to repopulate the earth.”
All through the Bible, from Genesis through Revelation, we see that what matters most is doing what you know God wants you to do.
Jesus Himself did not dream up things to do for His Heavenly Father. Instead, He says, “…Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing…” (John 5:19-20)
The same is true of Moses, Abraham, and David. All of these men sought to know God first, and as they drew near Him, and made themselves available, He revealed His plans to them.
We don’t have to wait for some great revelation from God to get started.
It all begins by daily doing what you know He wants you to do.
